If you missed it, the most talked about moment took place when Aretha Franklin took the stage to pay tribute to honoree Carole King. Performing her classic, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” which King wrote in 1967, Franklin brought the house down, and even brought a tear to President Obama’s eyes.
King’s reaction to Franklin’s performance was also completely adorable, as she sang along with a smile that seemed to stretch from ear to ear.
Other artists came out to pay tribute to King by performing some of her biggest hits. Janelle Monáe sang a few bars from “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” before transitioning to “One Fine Day,” James Taylor performed “Up On the Roof,” and Sara Bareilles sang “You’ve Got a Friend” on the piano.
Director George Lucas, actress Cicely Tyson, composer Seiji Ozawa, and actress Rita Morena were among the other honorees.
